Role Summary/Purpose: | The Senior Solar Structural / Design Engineer, PE (Project Engineering) you will primarily support activities related to determining the structural feasibility of applying solar PV on rooftops of commercial buildings and for performing foundation systems for ground mount / carport applications. |
Essential Responsibilities: | As the Senior Solar Structural / Design Engineer, PE, you will:
Review customer supplied drawings, the selection of procured racking systems, system layout optimization, site surveys and various tasks related to the electrical design and interconnect of the systems Join a team of dedicated solar enthusiasts with an eye on keeping costs low while maximizing customer value Conduct detailed customer site visits documenting site conditions, measuring beams, and trusses Review customer supplied drawings and reports to determine limits of structural and civil capacity Prepare and stamp structural engineering reports, manage relationships with other PE firms for locations where candidate does not have a PE stamp Interface with the standards working groups pertaining to photovoltaic mounting system design and installation Perform and manage due diligence on all aspects of racking system design Design foundations to support carport systems Where applicable PE stamp integrated PV - structural / civil drawing sets Interact with racking manufacturers to provide optimal site layout Manage relationships with 3rd party structural and civil engineering firms Develop specifications for EPC’s (Engineering Procurement Contractor) performing work for GE Educate / train other team members on structural and civil data to be gathered on site visits Perform economic analysis of services and products supplied as part of solar project development cycle Creation of Mechanical system layouts Develop cost estimates of PV plants Support project proposal development Support customer meetings as technical representative Identify new products to stay in compliance with national and local codes Performance modeling of PV systems Technical support in assistance of business and market development needs As needed support of Project Managers with oversight of subcontractors |
Qualifications/Requirements: | Bachelor's Degree in Structural Engineering from an accredited university or college Proof of PE license for any US state Minimum of 5 years of experience in solar / power industry ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Desired Characteristics: | Calculations of loads per ASCE 7, IBC, ACI, AISC and other applicable codes
Solar PV structural and civil design / build history
Proof of PE license for CA
Master's Degree in Structural Engineering from an accredited university or college
Minimum of 3 years of industry related experience in STAAD Pro, RISA, SAP 2000 or other structural engineering related software
Extensive AutoCAD experience
Experience with TEKLA, Revit, Sketch - up
Experience with Helios 3D
Understanding of NEC (National Electric Code) code, building codes, and structural codes
Familiarity with all MS Office products
Strong Analytical skills
Technically self - sufficient and highly motivated
Strong technical writing ability
Strong communication and presentation skills
NABCEP or other certifications are a plus
