Role Summary/Purpose: GE is an equal opportunity employer, offering a great work environment, challenging career opportunities, professional training and competitive compensation. The BWR Mechanical Component Engineer will contribute to the team responsible for BWR Mechanical Component Engineering.
Essential Responsibilities: In addition you will:

  • Perform BWR Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) system parts order evaluation and processing with emphasis on knowledge of mechanical equipment
  • Lead and conduct evaluations, part configuration changes, part redesigns and verifications
  • Respond to BWR customer emergent plant hardware issues on a potential 24/7 basis
  • Interact with NRC and Utility during the certification and redesign phases of hardware
  • Interface with equipment suppliers, analysts, C&I engineers, project managers, licensing engineers and materials engineers
  • Review / approve supplier drawings, and documentation
  • Lead and/or support the development / design of hardware modifications in support of technical initiatives
  • Develop and/or modify Engineering Work Processes
  • Support GEH quality requirements defined in policies and procedures
  • Support BWR multi-business new product development and emergent plant issues
  • Specify and conduct scale model testing for hardware
  • Have the ability to quickly sort relevant information from irrelevant information and make good decisions when information is scarce or unavailable
  • Have strong external focus; clear and demonstrated understanding of nuclear industry and/or energy industry, takes action to enhance the reputation of the company and will represent the company well at all opportunities
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with teams of diverse people, diverse ideas, in a matrixed environment
  • Demonstrated ability to develop credibility with customers, manager and peers
  • Considers the external impact of business activities and decisions on customers, market/industry, media, government and communities
  • Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering discipline OR High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of technical experience
  • Minimum 5 years of additional experience in mechanical component engineering and/or equipment specifications
  • Additional Eligibility Qualifications: GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening. Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen.
    Desired Characteristics:
  • Experienced in specifying equipment for power plant components; development, supplier design, manufacturing, quality and non-conformance processes; applications engineering, industry code requirements (ASME, ANSI, ASTM), and parts dedication process: environmental, seismic and dynamic qualification and testing
  • Knowledge of power plant systems
  • Experienced in performing engineering calculations
  • Ability to coordinate with other engineering disciplines, project managers, and support staff
  • Self-starter with a positive, can-do attitude
  • Legacy of delivering on commitments; tenacious, with a proven track record of overcoming obstacles; ability to achieve stretch targets
  • Strong external focus; clear and demonstrated understanding of nuclear industry and/or energy industry
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Clearly and confidently communicates based on deep understanding
