Role Summary/Purpose: The Component and Development Test (C&DT) CoE is responsible for the design and execution of critical test programs with the objective of acquiring high quality design data that will facilitate the development of world class products for GE Power & Water Engineering. C&DT uses state-of-the-art measurement and acquisition solutions to support worldwide test programs covering product, technology and services applications in Gas, Steam, Generator, IGCC, Renewables and Aero derivatives.
Essential Responsibilities: The Lead Engineer / Technologist, "Test & Facility Engineer" will demonstrate leadership in supporting Schenectady Test Laboratory (STL) engineering tests and facilities engineering. This individual will be responsible for test program oversight as well as learn and support facilities operations. They will plan, prepare, lead and satisfactorily execute technology and/or product development test programs and lead test capability, system, and facility design upgrades.

In addition you will:

  • Provide technical interface / test lead of assigned test programs
  • Act as primary customer interface responsible for customer CTQ's & deliverables, functionally supporting TL Test & Facility Engineering
  • Be responsible for the planning, preparation and satisfactory execution of test programs to meet and/or exceed customer requirements
  • Learn and master test vehicle & facility capabilities
  • Develop / own component and facility system designs including design modifications
  • Collaborate and partner with customers to design tests that can be achieved within facility capabilities or through feasible, approved extensions of lab capabilities
  • Work closely with technical leaders, test and facility engineers, technicians, data acquisition / controls team and trades to identify & implement test facility upgrades and to conduct tests
  • Project manage test related activities including the design & coordination of facility mods; data acquisition set up, hardware installation, operations planning and test documentation
  • Provide technical lead and critical review of new equipment designs / installations
  • Perform assigned reviews of installations to ensure systems continue to meet design intent and oversee installation, erection and commissioning of new and upgraded system capabilities
  • Deliver technical presentations at design reviews, tollgate, technology and program reviews
  • Maintain electronic Test Record File, ISO and prepare / review test rig related documentation
  • Follow Tollgate processes for facility and test capability upgrades
  • Perform / project manage engineering analysis of test vehicle systems and their performance.
  • Establish work priorities consistent with STL goals & objectives
  • Compile team input, lead project team, and present to principles, CEO, and STL Leadership
  • Own and drive schedule & support meeting financial budget objectives
  • Lead assigned test operation, plan resource need, work with TL's / Facilitator for DAS, Test Operations, Crafts support
  • Provide technical guidance / work planning inputs to crafts, contractors, and engineering
  • Author test and facility operating and technical instructions and procedures including Design Practices
  • Develop / maintain P&IDs and engineering drawings
  • Lead system commissioning & startup
  • Qualify and support "operations" of STL systems and test facilities
  • Document technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures
  • Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments
  • Have a strong commitment to EHS
  • Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor Degree of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science from an accredited college or university (Or a High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of IT, Engineering, Scientific, or other technical experience)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an Engineering position
  • Additional Eligibility Qualifications: GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening. Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen.
    Desired Characteristics:
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with Six Sigma tools and processes
  • Master's Degree in engineering or technical from an accredited college or university
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification or equivalent quality certification
  • Edison Engineer
  • Self-starter, highly motivated, able to meet schedules in fast pace environment.

  • Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems

  • Professional Engineer License
  • Experience working with high pressure, high temperature, high speed, hazardous process, electrical drive and controls systems
  • Six Sigma DFSS or equivalent quality design skills
  • Experience with AutoCAD, PLC, HMI, Visio, ADRE, FEA, Unigraphics
  • Steam turbine, Gas turbine, and/or Industrial Systems experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work well with all levels of and across organizations
  • Boundaryless thinker with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Knowledge of test methodologies, instrumentation and measurement systems, data acquisition systems, power plant and process equipment data acquisition systems and data processing
  • Experience in GT, ST, Industrial systems technology, laboratory or performance testing
  • Commitment to customer, teamwork and team success
