The Design Engineer, Rotating Parts will be a component owner or analysis expert for drives or bearings within the Rotating Parts team. They will be responsible for the support of the product throughout the entire life cycle from conceptual design through design and development, testing, manufacturing and field support. They will drive technical excellence in the design of the component under their responsibility for new and existing products and coach team members.
Essential Responsibilities: In addition you will:

  • Work cross-functionally with quality teams, manufacturing engineers, sourcing, planning, field support and others to improve first time yield
  • Work with design engineers, customers, functional leaders, and manufacturing to meet production and product support requirements
  • Be responsible for design, development, life calculation, trade-off studies, design documentation and testing (working with internal and external test and validation resources) to prove out component functional and reliability
  • Identify cost saving ideas and strategies
  • Drive reliability, RCA closure and quick issue resolution on bearings and structural parts in the field and manufacturing chain
  • Meet NPI and DMP objectives
  • Lead, train and develop team members
  • Initiate, build, and lead technical programs for cost out or product improvement
  • Drive resolution of issues arising during design and development
  • Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments
  • Hold ownership of design related documents like component drawings, assembly drawings, BoM, etc.
  • Drive best practices across organization - better documenting of parts and assemblies, tracking issues to separate special cause "mistakes" from features needing improvements
  • Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, or Structural Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 8 years of Mechanical Engineering or other technical experience
  • Additional Eligibility Qualifications: GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening. Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Ability to work with global team members across cultural boundaries
  • Ability to lead teams
  • Experience with bearings and/or lubrication
  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical, Structural or Material Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Business tools and practices expertise
  • Six Sigma Green Belt Certification or equivalent quality certification
  • Wind turbine experience
  • Structural, welding, casting or slewing bearing design experience
  • Strong background in mechanical design engineering and finite element analysis (ANSYS)
  • Technical drawing and GD&T background
  • Knowledge of 3D-CAD tools like UG
  • Successful project / program leadership
