Role Summary/Purpose: The Combustion Aerothermal Design Engineer – Gas Turbine Combustion Engineering will develop designs of World-Class Gas Turbine Engine Combustion Systems considering operability, performance, durability and customer value in a team environment.
Essential Responsibilities: In addition you will:


  • Perform analyses, testing, and evaluations applying design practices, design templates & methods as well as engineering fundamentals for combustion systems while considering cost, operability, reliability, and emissions
  • Conceive ideas to solve combustor aero-thermal design problems
  • Conduct emissions, dynamics, heat transfer, and combustion performance modeling using 1D and 3D tools
  • Design combustion systems to meet program goals related to combustion system and overall gas turbine product requirements
  • Develop predictions and methods to validate combustor performance
  • Conduct laboratory and field testing of combustion systems to validate combustor performance
  • Interact with the global GE Combustion community to establish and communicate best practices and latest technical breakthroughs
  • Work with internal / external design and manufacturing teams to meet schedule and delivery high quality work
  • Effectively document and present results in formal and informal reviews
  • Protect the Intellectual Property rights of the Company
  • Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's of Science Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 1 year experience with emphasis on Combustion related applications
  • Additional Eligibility Qualifications: GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening. Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen.
    Desired Characteristics:
  • Masters Degree in an Engineering or Science discipline from an accredited college or university
  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering with specialization in combustion
  • Demonstrated strong technical skills
  • Excellent understanding of combustion, emissions, and gas turbine design
  • Experience in development of in-house computational codes (Euler Solver using FVM and FEM, Level Set solvers, VOF solver, Equilibrium Calculator using Partition functions etc.) on UNIX based platforms using C / C++ and / or Matlab
  • Experience in development of numerical schemes and methods to achieve high-order accuracy
  • Exposure to experimental methods in fluid dynamics and experimental data processing
  • Demonstrated experience in technical documentation and writing, preferably with publications and conference papers
  • Strong computer skills using MS Office
  • Unigraphics (UG) CAD experience
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
