Role Summary/Purpose: The Lead RMD Systems Design Engineer will be responsible for design, develop, & oversee software, hardware and data-modeling specifications for Remote Monitoring / Diagnostics (RMD) & Analytics programs on GE Distributed Power Waukesha engines. The Engineer will design, validate, and operationalize, RMD infrastructure used to collect data from engines, communicate the data to central infrastructure, and support development of central infrastructure.
Essential Responsibilities: In addition, you will:

  • Collaborate with both lead & senior engineers to design and model protocols and specification solutions and drive those decisions into the design of the product
  • Work across the entire software & hardware development lifecycle including high-level and detailed design, software and hardware implementation, verification, validation and maintenance activities
  • Author software and hardware design specifications / requirements
  • Develop and execute unit, integration, and system tests to verify the design and implementation
  • Collaborate with cross functional team members for site specific application solutions and infrastructure needs
  • Support implementation and installation of RMD for Waukesha engines
  • Work with Program Managers to execute on programs needed to meet the Analytics / Predictivity Strategy for Distributed Power
  • Develop hardware / software test procedures; work with engineering test lab to execute and document the results
  • Evaluate potential RM&D software & hardware solutions and implement plans using knowledge of product, system operation, inter-module interactions, and interactive software tools as required
  • Assist with documenting processes and preserving knowledge in the organization
  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously, under the supervision and guidance of program managers
  • Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related Computer / Engineering Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 5 years of hardware & software development

  • Demonstrated strong software design abilities
  • Experience in cellular & satellite network communication systems
  • Familiarity with relational database design
  • Experience with multiple scripting languages
  • Working knowledge of Structured Data and XML
  • Experience with multi-threaded, concurrent systems
  • Working knowledge of cloud solutions and web technologies
  • Working knowledge of engine controls systems, PLCs
  • Knowledge about industrial control / SCADA systems
  • Familiarity in dealing with large time series data sets (Big Data)
  • Experience / familiarity with Remote Monitoring & Diagnostics
  • Familiar with static and dynamic analysis tools and techniques
  • Equipment operations, service or engineering experience
  • Experience with configuration management tools (Subversion, GIT)
  • Demonstrated effective problem solving capabilities
  • Global mindset with ability to work effectively with team members and technical leaders located in remote locations
  • Python software development experience
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related Computer Degree from an accredited college or university
