Role Summary/Purpose:
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Monitoring of patent application publications of competitors and vendors with main focus on Wind Turbine technology, especially on Rotor Blades Structure and Manufacturing, Aerodynamics and Fiber Reinforced Plastics. Classification of such and distribution of relevant publications to Engineering teams
  • Use patent search tools and databases, like ThomsonInnovation, US PTO PAIR, EPO Online, etc.
  • Perform IP clearance programs on assigned technical developments (DTO / NPI / NTI / RCA) and ensure freedom to operate, in cooperation with global team and IP counsel
  • Follow up with technical experts and IP counsel on potential patents of concern, track assigned patent families with regards to changes in claims and relevance for own developments or products
  • Searching for published prior art regarding special topics of patent literature in order to prepare oppositions in close cooperation with technical experts and IP counsel
  • Support IP Counsel in preparation for opposition filings and proceedings
  • Support inventors on creation of Invention Disclosure Letters (IDL) and further patent process
  • Hosting Patent Evaluation Board to assess new disclosed inventions and providing filing recommendation
  • Track and update metrics on IDL status until final decision is made, for assigned cases
  • Planning and execution of IP landscaping, enabling competitor IP awareness in technical teams and "white space" identification with potential for own IP generation
  • Training of employees on industrial protective rights (esp. patents) and IP processes & tools
  • Increase high value IDL submission rate to exceed Business expectations or address shortfalls in expectations
  • Recognize, prioritize and support potential competitor infringements of GE patents
  • Development and maintenance of strategic patent portfolio
  • Contact person for engineering, management and IP counsel in various IP topics, in particular on Wind Turbine Rotor Blades Structure and Manufacturing, Aerodynamics and Fiber Reinforced Plastics
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Engineering Degree (TU/TH/UNI/FH)(MS / BS) Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years work experience in an engineering organization
  • Very good technical understanding and knowledge
  • Affinity to written explanation of technical matters. Very good text comprehension skills
  • Fluently English and German speaking and writing skills
  • DFSS / DMAIC Green Belt Certification (for internal candidates)

Desired Characteristics:
  • Experience in Fiber Reinforced Plastics, Leightweight Structures, Aerodynamics is highly appreciated
  • Work experience in a global team (India, China, USA, Germany)
  • Basic knowledge of patent law, how to read, understand, search for and identify relevant patents
  • Experience as IP Engineer / Patent Agent welcomed
  • Basic knowledge of the law on employees' inventions / Inventor Compensation
  • Effective communication verbally and in writing, respect to different cultures
  • Structured and result oriented work style. Commitment to timely deliverables without compromising quality
