Role Summary/Purpose: The Mechanical Engineer – Universal Fleet Solutions will be responsible for the design of mechanical systems and components for non-GE wind turbines. The Mechanical Engineer will have ownership through all aspects of product development ranging from system and component level design / analysis, through prototype generation and testing, to final design validation, documentation and implementation.
Essential Responsibilities: In addition, you will:

  • Be responsible for the development / enhancement of mechanical components & systems that improve performance, operability and availability/reliability for non-GE wind turbines
  • Develop mechanical component & system design and analysis, site implementation, system testing / validation, and installation documentation
  • Encompass all mechanical systems and components of a wind turbine
  • Perform feasibility studies and early concept evaluations to drive the evolution of technology offerings
  • Modify and apply existing GE technologies to non-GE wind turbines
  • Lead reverse engineering efforts of non-GE wind turbine mechanical components & systems
  • Lead the development of UFS mechanical design methodology ensuring engineering rigor
  • Document design and lessons learned to enable future technology developments for non-GE wind turbines
  • Interface cross functionally with the UFS product managers, Services, Sales, Sourcing and other engineering organizations to understand and define mechanical offerings for non-GE wind turbines
  • Interface with customers, including site visits, to investigate complex issues, identify & develop improvements
  • Obtain and handle competitive and GE information within the GE P&W Intellectual Property guidelines and in compliance with The Spirit & The Letter
  • Ensure the design, modification, and implementation is within safe and compliant turbine operation
  • Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related engineering / science discipline from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 8 years of engineering experience
  • Additional Eligibility Qualifications: GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening. Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in wind
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in a mechanical component or system design
