Role Summary/Purpose: Heat Transfer & Fluid Systems Design Lead Engineers at GE Infrastructure will be responsible for the design, development and test of a number of products ranging from Aircraft Engines, Power Generation Plants and Locomotives. This role will be accountable to ensure that the product meets performance criteria, weight, cost, and fit and function specifications.
Essential Responsibilities: The Heat Transfer & Fluid Systems Design Lead Engineer main responsibility will be to support the Preliminary Design functions in Infrastructure. This will include working with our business partners in Aviation, Energy, Oil & Gas, and Rail to identify improvements, future developments and maintenance to their current software tools. This role will work with the functional teams and the Project Leaders at the various locations to develop synergy roadmaps with the Infrastructure businesses.

In addition you will:

  • Participate and lead Thermal Systems projects including methods & tool development
  • Interface with Engineering Leaders to develop T & F tool best practices and implementation strategies
  • Work with resources from Bangalore Engineering Center (BEC), Bangalore, India and Global Research Center (GRC), Schenectady, NY, in the development of the state-of-the-art T & F tools
  • Keep abreast of relevant engineering design practices, advances in physics-based modeling best practices and advances in commercial thermal & fluid analysis tools - document and communicate significant findings
  • Assist in T&F tools training and provide application consulting
  • Provides timely communications on significant issues or developments
  • Participate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues
  • Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews
  • Participate in business process evaluation / improvement activities, requirements gathering, system analysis, system design, software / hardware applicability studies and system implementation
  • Participate and/or lead in the analysis, design, coding, testing, documentation, implementation, and maintenance of information technology solutions for business processes
  • Support, advise, assist guide and resolve problems for client users
  • Participate in the evaluation / implementation of third party software solutions
  • Act as a change agent for business processes
  • Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an engineering position
  • Additional Eligibility Qualifications: GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening. Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen.
    Desired Characteristics:
  • Proficient in Algorithm development using FORTRAN, C++, C, and PERL
  • Experience in software development for analytical and visualization software
  • Strong fundamentals in the theory of thermal & fluids sciences
  • Experience working with commercial analysis software like ANSYS, Hypermesh
  • Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in Engineering with a major in Thermal & fluids and/or Computational Methods from an accredited college or university
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in writing or orally
  • Demonstrated analysis and problem resolution skills
  • Background in the algorithm development and theory of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) solver schemes and numerics
  • Familiarity with ANSYS analysis capability for Thermo-Mechanical and fluid systems
  • Knowledge of process integration, optimizations and probabilistic design
  • Supercomputing experience with codes like MPI / OpenMP / PThreads
