Role Summary/Purpose: GE's footprint in the Commercial Solar PV (PhotoVoltaic) is rapidly expanding. As the Senior Solar Design Engineer, PE (Professional Engineer) you will primarily support activities related to the design and construction of commercial, behind-the-meter solar PV plants. Additional activities may include the design of complimentary distributed energy systems such as UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply), Battery, Generator or other alternative energy supply.
Essential Responsibilities: As the Senior Solar Design Engineer, PE, you will join a team of dedicated solar enthusiasts with an eye on keeping costs low while maximizing customer value.


In addition you will:


  • Conduct detailed customer site visits
  • Create and PE stamp 3-Line electrical design of PV plants and monitoring systems
  • Review and correct designs of other team members
  • Train and educate colleagues on lessons learned and best practices
  • Create mechanical system layouts
  • Develop cost estimates of PV plants
  • Support project proposal development
  • Support customer meetings as technical representative
  • Identify new products to stay in compliance with national and local codes
  • Hands on participation in project deployments, monitoring, and debugging activity of key test sites
  • Complete performance modeling of PV systems
  • Provide technical support in assistance of business and market development needs
  • Complete interconnect and incentive application packages
  • Interact with and oversee subcontractors
  • Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Electronics
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in solar / power industry, including Solar PV project design / build experience (OR minimum of 5 years of electrical experience with utility requirements relating to design and implementation of power distribution systems)
  • Additional Eligibility Qualifications: GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening. Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen.
    Desired Characteristics:
  • PE (Professional Engineer) license for any state in the USA
  • Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Electronics
  • Extensive AutoCAD experience
  • Proficient understanding of NEC code, building codes, structural codes, etc.
  • Experience with monitoring and communications systems, weather stations
  • Experience with PVsyst or other PV (PhotoVoltaic) modeling software
  • Experience with grid connected distribution such as generator, UPS or battery systems
  • Familiarity with all MS Office products
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Technically self-sufficient and highly motivated
  • Strong technical writing ability
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) or other certifications
  • Proficient in Revit or Sketch up
