Role Summary/Purpose: The Technical Support Engineer – Solar Inverters will provide technical expertise and engineering to support the Power Conversion Renewables business. In this role you will provide technical support engineering provides design engineering capability to support the commercial and field engineering teams for Solar Inverter products.
Essential Responsibilities: As the Technical Support Engineer – Solar Inverters, you will:


  • Serve as the 2nd level support function in the global technical support team
  • Provide technical support to the local field technicians in high-level cases (via phone and also at site)
  • Interface with service, engineering, sourcing, manufacturing, quality, and product leadership teams to expediently resolve technical issues
  • Analyze the failure and availability statistics of the installed fleet to identify failure trends in an early phase and to initiate corrective actions
  • Work with the functional technical support team to increase the system performance, based on statistical data
  • Develop operational models to provide technical support for internal and external stakeholders, including network connectivity, data collection, and remote hardware management
  • Collaborate with global technical support teams to improve product support by tracking issues, projects and associated reports and driving process improvements
  • Support the regional managers in all technical needs and during customer visits
  • Provide technical supervision for retrofits and validation of performance increase
  • Team with product engineers to define product support documentation and deliver content for publication
  • Assist the functional technical support and product service engineering groups during RCA programs
  • Field test and lab test of prototype retrofits and verification of the technical documentation to meet the field engineering needs
  • Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willingness and ability to travel 20% of the time
  • Additional Eligibility Qualifications: GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening. Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen.
    Desired Characteristics:
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering
  • Strong customer focus, safety and quality mindset
  • Additional experience in an electrical or mechanical industrial apprenticeship
  • Practicable working knowledge of the current GE Energy Power Conversion products including LV5, Conversol, Brilliance, PECe, and Automation application software
  • Familiarity with Instrumentation and measurement of power converter products
  • Experience with SCADA systems, Historian, data management, remote connectivity architecture, or related IT infrastructure
  • Ability to analyze technical processes
  • Ability to make quick decisions in order to adapt to any situation
  • Quality awareness and ability to identify future failures, defects, and problems
  • Structured work methods and analytical skills
  • Able to interface effectively with all levels of the organization and external customers
  • Anticipates customer needs and ensures they are met
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Six Sigma training or equivalent Quality training
