Role Summary/Purpose: | As a Power Electronics Post Doc Researcher, you will conduct advanced power electronics research in medium voltage high power electronics for applications such as wind and solar power conversion, electric drives for oil and gas, ship and aircraft power and propulsion, power electronics for energy storage system, and DC-based power transmission and distribution. |
Essential Responsibilities: | High Power Conversion Systems Lab leads cutting edge research and development in power electronics supporting mid to long range GE products for GE businesses, such as Energy Management, Power & Water, Oil & Gas, Aviation, Healthcare, and external customers, such as DOD and DOE in the following three areas: Utility Power Conversion – transmission and distribution, renewable energy systems (wind, PV, and fuel cell), oil & gas (LNG, high speed compressor drive, and subsea), high voltage applications, critical power and energy storage interface; High Density Power - ship power & propulsion, aircraft power generation & distribution, land based vehicle drive; Precision Power Conversion - medical power electronics (MR gradient driver, X-Ray source electronics). The Power Electronics Post Doc reports directly to the Lab Manager for the High Power Conversion Systems Lab. As a Post Doc Researcher, you will:
You will develop high power, high precision and high density power electronics systems and products Conduct power electronics research involving modeling and simulation, building lab scale prototype, system testing, writing technical reports Collaborate with both GE product engineers and with global research team members on technical projects Be part of a team to invent new power electronics circuits, control and systems ideas for medium voltage motor drive, solar photovoltaic inverter, ship and aircraft electric power, WBG power electronics and other commercial/military applications |
Qualifications/Requirements: | PhD in Electrical Engineering with at least 3 years of experience in power electronics Knowledge of power electronics and embedded controls including the following areas:In-depth knowledge on state of the art power electronics devices, circuit and systemsIn-depth knowledge of WBG device and packagingKnowledge on power electronics modulation methods and digital controls Proficiency in power electronics circuit design and simulation tools such as Saber, Matlab/Simulink, PLECS, or PSPICE Familiar with mechanical and thermal design Familiar with magnetics design Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required; we will not sponsor individuals at the Bachelors or Masters level for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY Must be 18 years or older You must submit your application for employment on the careers page at www.gecareers.com to be considered |
