Role Summary/Purpose: | This posting is for a Lead Engineer Software Developer – Windows Applications in the GE Power, Water & Distributed Power, Services & Analytics team at the EDC. This hands-on position requires broad engineering competence and in-depth technical knowledge of software development, as well as demonstrated experience successfully planning, organizing, and conducting software development projects in a dynamic environment. |
Essential Responsibilities: | - Working in the technology department closely with the service engineering, to develop software solutions for RM&D, Analytics and Big Data,
- Proactive participation in quality improvements like Root Cause Analysis by providing technical information about software behavior and performance,
- Use modern software design processes and tools for concept, design & validation of software (remote control software, data analytics, engine HMI software and related software tools) for the ongoing development of current products and new products to be introduced in GE Distributed Power portfolio,
- Provide technical input at detailed level to lead and senior engineers for inclusion into guidelines and standard design practices,
- Apply related software development standards, guidelines, design practices and legal instructions to design reliable and compliant products,
- Continuously communicate with technology/service engineering, service and sourcing departments to ensure efficient project execution,
- Provide meaningful software documentation (user manuals, setup instructions, test reports and FAQ’s),
- Support Big Data initiatives by integrating GE established solutions into GE Distributed Power business,
- Organization of software usability tests for commercial software used on GE Distributed Power products,
- Working within the Software Development engineering team with strong collaboration to other disciplines (i.e. electrical engineering and system design, mechanic, thermodynamic, service, local IT departments,
- Prepare written technical reports and present individual results and project progress within project design reviews, NPI (new product introduction) meetings and other forums within technology,
- Work on multiple projects simultaneously.

Qualifications/Requirements: | - BSc/MSc in Computer Science or related (or equivalent in knowledge/experience),
- Strong experience in software development in Windows applications (.NET, C#),
- Experience programming WPF, VBScript, Java (J2EE, Groovy, JBoss), C++, XML and Xpath, REST web services, Windows Installer,
- Fundamental knowledge regarding software development and related processes (Agile),
- Working knowledge about software development and testing standards and techniques,
- Experience with data structures, information retrieval, HTTP and TCP/IP,
- Relational databases, SQL, Oracle preferred,
- Experience with Linux/Unix environments, distributed systems, performance analysis,
- Strong analytic and problem solving skills,
- Affinity to design software on a high quality and maintainability level,
- Ability to work in a global team environment with strong project management skills,
- Candidate must be thorough, accurate, and be able to communicate effectively both to technical and non-technical audiences,
- Green Belt certified (GE employees only).

Desired Characteristics: | - Master’s Degree in Computer Science or other relevant field (or equivalent in knowledge/experience),
- Experience with Statistical and analytic programming design and technologies (Matlab, R, etc.),
- Familiarity in dealing with large time series data sets (Big Data),
- Familiarity with industrial control / SCADA systems,
- Axeda product experience,
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills,
- Fluent English written & verbal skills essential.
