Role Summary/Purpose: The LED Global Commodity Leader demonstrates leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for LED chips and modules. In this role you will use your experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and effect short-term and long-term business goals.
Essential Responsibilities:

In addition you will :


  • Lead the LED commodity procurement strategy including selecting preferred primary and secondary suppliers for each product and product line based on supplier capabilities and business objectives, collaborate with design teams to ensure the consideration of the best LEDs for each application, and enforce adherence to strategy
  • Leverage the strategy to drive reduced lead times, consolidation of similar specifications, as well as achieve variable cost productivity, cash flow, and controllership goals
  • Lead the supplier selection, qualification, development, and overall supplier management, including managing the entire contract life cycle from Request for Proposal to supplier exit
  • Balance strategy development with the tactical execution necessary to execute cost reduction projects through contract negotiation, process changes, and implementation of sustainable cost controls, including collaboration with Finance to validate the impact of projects and contract negotiations to the general ledger
  • Develop technical and market expertise in LED while building supplier relationships and be the resource for NPI teams to obtain competitive analysis and commercial details on LEDs
  • Enhance tools for compiling LEDs used across GE Lighting and contract manufacturers including price, lead time, volumes, and technical characteristics and distribute them to Technology and Supply Chain teams to drive making the best specification negotiations for the business and improving product cost and efficiency
  • Work with NPI teams and fulfillment leaders to forecast demand for critical NPI launches to suppliers
  • Develop redundant (direct & distribution) sources of LEDs that have a distribution channel to ensure stability of supply
  • Collaborate with LED Components leader to develop a means for GE Lighting to sell or trade obsolete and excess LEDs
  • Create and enforce business policies to meet business targets and customer needs, including improving procurement processes and optimizing Sourcing resources to enhance the customer experience with Sourcing
  • Closely monitor supplier performance to plan and work with the suppliers to manage any required recovery plans / actions
  • Coordinate with factories and contract manufacturers to ensure supply meets any and all demand requirements
  • Hold performance reviews with suppliers as needed
  • Conduct Capacity Audits, track any Red Flags that impede supplier performance and control revisions at Suppliers
  • Ensure any quality issues have the appropriate focus
  • Develop process to look upstream for pending requirements and drive Engineering / Manufacturing / Sales in order to ensure sourcing given adequate cycle to procure material
  • Become business expert on LEDs and be prepared to give executive overviews of the LED industry landscape and competitor developments
  • Collaborate with GEL business leaders to build Nichia partnership and ensure all design teams consider and have access to the best Nichia devices available
  • Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in Sourcing, Technology / Engineering, Finance, Manufacturing, or Operations
  • Additional Eligibility Qualifications: GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening. Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen.
    Desired Characteristics:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university or college
  • Sourcing experience in electronics or related field
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification is preferred (GE employees only)
  • Proven quantitative and analytical abilities
  • Strong PC and database management skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • GE program graduate is preferred (GE employees only)
