Role Summary/Purpose: | The Power Electronics Controls Engineer will provide Control Engineering domain expertise in a multi-disciplinary engineering development team that includes system and control engineering, application software engineering, simulation, hardware and mechanical design, integration and test functions. |
Essential Responsibilities: | As the Power Electronics Control Engineer, you will: -Design, implement, and test new power electronic control software to meet documented requirements for Renewable Energy product line (Wind, Solar etc.) -Establish system and sub-system level requirements from functional specifications and application needs -Develop new products using simulation, modeling and statistical design methods -Design power electronics control software to meet performance, reliability and cost targets -Implement rapid-prototypes using auto-code generation tools (Matlab / Simulink) -Implement product design using Object Oriented Programming techniques in C / C++ integrated development environment -Develop and execute system and subsystem validation test plans -Develop subsystem models to support concept validation studies and DFSS activities -Participate in FMEA, risk assessment and Root Cause Analysis activities -Participate in writing product documentation, technical reports, developing software cost and schedule estimates, and authoring software development and test plans |

Desired Characteristics: | -Related embedded controls experience through CO-OP or University class work -Demonstrated ability to meet goals and objectives. -Proven interpersonal and leadership skills -Advanced Technology Degree -Experience in developing embedded control applications using C / C++ and real-time operating systems (e.g., QNX) -Experience with Software Structuring and Design documentation. -Educational background in Control Theory, Power Electronics, Electrical Machines and Power System Stability Analysis -Knowledge of modern control techniques, software languages and development & analysis tools for real-time controls -Familiarity with simulation tools (e.g. Simplorer, SABER, Matlab / Simulink) -Working knowledge of power electronics and control systems -Working knowledge of wind turbine or photovoltaic system technologies.
