The Welding Engineer will support the team responsible for BWR reactor internals and pressure vessel repair and modification hardware design engineering. This individual will provide welding design, ASME Code guidance, manufacturability, and vendor procedure approvals for assigned projects.
Essential Responsibilities: In addition you will:

  • Be responsible for leading and coordinating welding design work or development projects with moderate to high complexity
  • Develop requirements, testing plans and specifications to meet internal and external requirements and standards
  • Provide expert welding engineering design, manufacturing and procedure guidance to design teams, quality engineering and field services engineering
  • Ensure that welding designs and procedures meet all intended application, Code and regulatory requirements including working with experts in other functional teams
  • Support or lead welding and materials in-service or manufacturing failure and root causal investigations
  • Review and approve vendor and field services teams welding and supporting procedures
  • Document and communicate results of technical data or evaluations generated
  • Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Welding or other Materials Engineering field from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in design, welding engineering, process development & field or manufacturing welding applications
  • Additional Eligibility Qualifications: GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening. Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen.
    Desired Characteristics:
  • Working knowledge of ASME and AWS codes and guidelines
  • Knowledge of non-destructive examination processes
  • Ability and willingness to travel to domestic and international plant sites
  • Experience with design of mechanical components, pressure vessels, and equipment
  • Experience with welding design, structural analysis (including FEM) and fabrication
  • Experience in carbon / low alloy steels, stainless steels and nickel base alloys
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and proven leadership skills
  • Experience in the BWR or PWR industry
  • Six Sigma Green Belt Certification or equivalent quality certification
