Role Summary/Purpose: The Lead Maintenance Specialist in the Schenectady Facilities Operation group will troubleshoot and analyze machine tool in our Steam Turbine & Generator manufacturing plant within GE Power & Water in Schenectady, NY – the birthplace of GE and the business headquarters. They will be expected to make business critical decisions in a timely manner and meet safety, quality, production, and delivery metrics within a particular cell.
Essential Responsibilities: In addition you will:

  • Analyze Machine Tools failures for indications of assignable causes, identify and recommend corrective actions, and work with group to implement
  • Work closely with the Operations Manager in assigned area, providing him with weekly metrics on performance, schedules on critical repairs, as well as daily updates on critical equipment
  • Recommend major rebuilds, and redesigns to Manufacturing Engineering, and perform minor redesigns for the elimination of future breakdowns
  • Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering in the review, design and installation of machines, prepare Preventative Maintenance schedule, lubrication charts, and determine the necessary spare parts levels
  • Lead teams of hourly trade personnel to maintain, troubleshoot, repair and modify industrial machinery
  • Direct skilled trades in the latest repair techniques and maintenance methods
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the organization using Lean Six Sigma
  • Develop opportunities for reducing operating expenses
  • Active participation in safety initiatives
  • Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Technical field such as Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university OR Associate’s Degree in Electrical area such as Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 3 years of technical maintenance experience
  • Minimum of 6 years of industrial experience or military maintenance experience with training in advanced electronics
  • Additional Eligibility Qualifications: GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening. Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen.
    Desired Characteristics:
  • Minimum of 10 years of industrial OR military maintenance experience with training in advanced electronics
  • Knowledge of common pc tools, (Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point), portable electronic devices and technology applications
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized team player
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Broad understanding of mechanical and electrical aspects of machine tool Numerical Controls, speed variators, PLC’s, Robotics, and Laser alignments
  • Experience as a Machine Tool Field Service Representative
  • Six Sigma Green Belt Certification or equivalent quality certification
