Role Summary/Purpose: The Lead Engineer / Technologist, Thermal Performance Modeling will be part of the Performance Engineering group of Power Generation Services, a GE Power & Water company. Primary responsibilities include modeling, configuration and delivery of GE P&W's thermal performance monitoring software suite of products.
Essential Responsibilities: In addition you will:

  • Deliver thermodynamic performance monitoring, controls and optimization solutions that meet the specific needs of our power industry customers
  • Configure, install, validate, and provide ongoing support for the online performance monitoring and diagnostic systems
  • Utilization and development thermal modeling & optimization software packages like GateCycle, EfficiencyMap, etc.
  • Perform engineering studies for Gas Turbine, Steam Turbine and Combined Cycle plant performance
  • Assist plant engineers in monitoring equipment performance, investigating potential performance and operational problems, and providing recommendations to maximize plant net revenue
  • Engineering support for business programs (FastWorks, Simplification, cross functional engineering initiatives, etc.)
  • Assist in development of new technologies and procedures, which will help improve the product and reduce delivery time
  • Train plant personnel on use of performance monitoring systems
  • Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical / Chemical Engineering or related from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 3 years of industry experience [energy and/or oil & gas industry] in the areas of thermal performance evaluation, advanced process control, thermal performance testing or a combination of these

    Eligibility Requirements:

  • Travel to domestic and foreign power plants (10-25%)
  • This role requires use of technical data subject to U.S. Government export restrictions and this posting is only for U.S. Persons (U.S. Citizens, lawful permanent residents and protected individuals (e.g., certain refugees and asylees)). GE will require proof of status prior to employment
  • Additional Eligibility Qualifications: GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening. Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen.
    Desired Characteristics:
  • Self-starter with knowledge of thermal performance and operation of power plants and power plant equipment
  • Strong analytical skills working independently and in a team
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to convey technical concepts to business and technical personnel
  • Knowledge of ASME and PTC codes for plant performance
  • Advanced engineering degree with emphasis in power generation technology
  • Self-starter with knowledge of thermal performance and operation of power plants and power plant equipment
  • Familiarity with power plant DCS and plant historians
  • Familiarity with testing and measurement systems and with data interpretation
  • Linear programming / optimization
  • Experience in a cross functional environment
  • Experience working with customers
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification or equivalent quality certification
