The Lead Design Engineer will lead & perform structural design & analysis of wind turbine tower components within Drives & Structures COE. The Design Engineer will support the product through the entire life cycle from conceptual design through design & development, testing, qualification, manufacturing & installed fleet support. They will drive technical excellence & continuous improvement in the design, cost, producibility & reliability of the component(s) under their responsibility.
Essential Responsibilities: In addition you will:

  • Design tower components for wind turbines
  • Be responsible for Design, development and testing to prove component function and reliability
  • Provide innovative design solutions to meet aggressive timing, product cost and reliability targets
  • Create and revise drawings, specifications and design practices applying GE and industry processes and standards
  • Work cross functionally with quality teams, manufacturing engineers, sourcing, suppliers, field support and others to improve product quality and first time yield
  • Support manufacturing, sourcing and field support with issue resolution and quick corrective actions for design related causes (NCR, SDR, PAC)
  • Drive quick, complete technical root cause analysis of field failures and identify design related corrective actions to prevent recurrence
  • Support global supply chain activities for quality assurance and fulfillment across the globe
  • Identify and execute cost saving ideas and strategies
  • Drive lessons learned, best practices and standardization into drawings, specifications, design practices and processes
  • Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering or related from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 5 years of Engineering or related experience
  • Additional Eligibility Qualifications: GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening. Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen.
    Desired Characteristics:
  • Fluent in English, written and spoken
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Ability to work with global team members across cultural boundaries
  • Undergraduate specialization in Mechanical, Structural or Civil engineering
  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical, Structural or Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Business tools and practices expertise
  • Six Sigma Greenbelt Certification or equivalent quality certification
  • Wind turbine experience
  • Proven project, program leadership experience
  • Experience in mechanical design engineering and finite element analysis
  • Working knowledge of 3D-CAD tools like UG
  • Working knowledge of Ansys or other finite element analysis tools
  • Technical drawing, GD&T and design interpretation background
  • Experience working in a manufacturing and/or assembly facility
  • Experience working with suppliers, OEMs or customers
  • Experience leading resolution of complex multifaceted technical problems
