Role Summary/Purpose: The Water Engineering Program will be an exciting entry point for recent engineering graduates with interest in the Water business. This program will develop technical problem-solving and leadership skills through hands-on field work starting up and troubleshooting systems on customer sites. It will provide in-depth exposure to GE Water's major product lines, integration with project execution teams, as well as integrated formal training.
Essential Responsibilities: Over the course of the program, participants will have an opportunity to work in 3 other areas of the GE Power and Water business for 2 weeks each, such as: Technology, New Product Introductions, Applications Engineering, Process Engineering, Project Engineering, Quality, Service, and Commissioning leadership. This will give participants the opportunity to perceive how their experience in the field can be applied to other roles within the business.

The program will consist of
2.5 years working as a Commissioning Representative. Diverse experiences will include commissioning a minimum of 3 different plants, including one large or complex project that could be located anywhere in the world (primarily in North America).

In addition you will:

  • Safely and successfully commission full scale, membrane based, water / waste water treatment plants in locations around the world (primarily in North America)
  • Upon arrival to site, verify that installation by the customer of GE WATER AND PROCESS TECHNOLOGIES equipment has been done according to our P&ID, Mechanical, and Electrical Drawings; communicate any discrepancies to the customer and to GE WATER AND PROCESS TECHNOLOGIES and also, ensure that all parts have been received onsite
  • Work with client to ensure all lines are flushed of debris
  • Assist client in installing membranes; flush preservative from the membranes
  • Complete any adjustments to the membranes to ensure they are ready to filter water
  • Complete detailed controls testing to ensure the system is functioning as per design
  • Assist client in process startup, including sanitization, seeding, etc.
  • Assist client with initial operation of the plans
  • Train client operators on plant operation; transfer ownership of system to the client
  • Meet with the client / GE WATER AND PROCESS TECHNOLOGIES to communicate schedule, and to address issues whenever necessary
  • Drive to perform the duties of the role
  • Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university (OR High School Diploma / GED with a minimum 4 years of experience)

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively (300 days / year) throughout North America and other international locations, as required
  • Ability and willingness to possess and maintain a valid Passport
  • Ability and willingness to possess and maintain a clean driving record
  • Additional Eligibility Qualifications: GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening. Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen.
    Desired Characteristics:
  • Strong customer focus (both external and internal customers)
  • Strong knowledge of water / wastewater process: understand disinfection, BOD, coagulation, etc.
  • Programming skills: PLC and controls testing and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of both Mechanical and Electrical Engineering principles (hands on, reading and interpreting drawings, etc.)
  • Instrumentation setup experience
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize critical tasks
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new problems, clients, and situations
