Role Summary/Purpose: The Quality Process Engineer (QPE) for the Steam Turbine Rotor Assembly team will support the integration, ramp up, & execution, of services work within GE Power & Water in Schenectady, NY – the birthplace of GE & business headquarters. This individual will drive quality improvements utilizing root cause analysis, process reviews, corrective actions, statistical process control, in-process & final inspections, control gauges & test equipment, quality plans & overall communication.
Essential Responsibilities: In addition, you will:

  • Be responsible for the Quality of all in-house manufactured parts
  • Work with engineering to obtain dispositions on quality concerns
  • Gather all customer paper work and ensure unit is being worked per contract
  • Ensure operators have the proper training to perform the work needed
  • Coordinate all aspects of in-process inspections within cell(s), including training for long-term support of Six Sigma initiatives and compliance to ISO 9000
  • Evaluate and determine disposition of non-conforming materials and formulate corrective actions
  • Support the integration, ramp up, and execution, of rotor services work
  • Write detailed reports for the customer using WEBCRT
  • Perform incoming inspections of rotors
  • Escort customers while in the shop as needed
  • Provide process and quality support for development, first piece qualification, process improvement and productivity activities of new and existing suppliers and in-house qualifications
  • Ensure synergy of quality initiatives with suppliers, internal processes and customer expectations
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Analyze problems, identify root causes and provide efficient solutions
  • Handle diverse activities simultaneously
  • Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 3 years of engineering / industry experience

    Desired Characteristics:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Materials Engineering (or Engineering Technology) from an accredited college or university
  • Field engineering training
  • Prior Steam Turbine / Rotor Assembly experience
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, influencing, and facilitation skills
  • Strong and demonstrated leadership skills
  • Ability to work effectively cross functionally
  • Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma quality concepts and tools or equivalent Quality training
  • Prior union environment experience
  • Prior manufacturing experience
  • Ability to read and understand Engineering drawings and specifications
