Role Summary/Purpose: The Control Systems Technology organization will focus on the development and deployment of differentiated control system solutions for heavy duty gas turbines, and combined cycle power plants for the Power Generation Products & Services segments of GE P&W. The Engineer in this role will focus on new technology introduction in this space.
Essential Responsibilities: Areas of activity will include control algorithms, analytics, asset management, application development tools, controls platform architecture, user experience, and simulation & modeling technology. The goal of this pre-NPI engagement will be to drive innovation that will improve product costs, engineering productivity, and controls capability.

In addition, you will:

  • Interface with the broader controls community to define the technology strategy and roadmaps
  • Conceptualize products with product management, co-innovating with customers and ultimately leading the development of enabling technology for the product roadmap
  • Partner with experts in GRC, GE Intelligent Platforms, and the SW COE in strategic initiatives driving the future of controls
  • Develop compelling value stories for technology development programs, secure funding, and then leading the engineering effort to prove out concepts
  • Act as a mentor for less experienced team members
  • Have ability to travel to GE and customer sites
  • Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Computer, or Aerospace) from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 10 years of engineering experience
  • Additional Eligibility Qualifications: GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening. Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen.
    Desired Characteristics:
  • Minimum of 15 years of Post-Bachelor's engineering experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of controls technology experience
  • Master's or Doctorate of Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Educational background in control theory, thermodynamics, heat & mass transfer, turbine performance, electrical machines, and power system stability analysis
  • Working understanding of GE P&W tools used for control application development & validation including (but not limited to) Mark VI / VIe controls, virtual control technology, Matlab / SIMULINK, Easy5, Dynsim, CIMPLICTY and ARTEMIS
  • Experience with software applications, software design, & software structuring
  • Knowledge of design & operation of power plant systems & chemical processes
  • Working knowledge of control theory and practical applications
  • Experience modeling complex systems for real-time simulation
  • Highly-motivated, energetic, confident, self-starting personal characteristics
  • Interest in and ability to mentor less experienced engineers
  • Able to accomplish tasks without supervision, communicate effectively and take ownership of assigned projects
  • Strong analytical approach to problem solving
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Ability to succeed in a global team environment
