Role Summary/Purpose: Under general supervision, the Product Designer Engineer will support the Engineering group in the activities required to complete engineering work requests to support new product development and existing product support. This person will work under the supervision and direction of an Engineer and/or Sr. Product Designer.
Essential Responsibilities: In addition, you will:


  • Evaluate work requests for accuracy and completeness
  • Edit required design layouts to bring them to accepted industry and department practices
  • Perform necessary calculations and applying GD&T per ASME Y-
    14.5M
  • Attend job related meetings including design reviews
  • Investigate simple design issues & make recommendations for improvement with the guidance of a Sr. Product Designer or Engineer
  • Perform business system transactions associated with engineering change orders
  • Create and release complete technical data packages as required for new product release or resolution of current product manufacturing, purchasing, or field issues. (Technical data packages include, but are not limited to, detail component drawings, assembly instruction drawings, and technical application data)
  • Work with engineers, designers, manufacturing, sourcing, marketing, service, and other areas of expertise as required to procure prototype hardware for design verification, product release, troubleshooting production and field service type problems
  • Provide technical support to other functional areas as required
  • Assist on special projects as assigned by supervisor
  • Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Associates / Applied Science Degree in Mechanical Design Technology or Mechanical Engineering Technology from an accredited Technical College or University Or (High School Diploma / GED and a minimum 4 years work experience in Mechanical Design )
  • A minimum of 1 year experience utilizing mechanical design skills to design and detail simple and basic components and assemblies within Pro / E or other similar solid modeling CAD software (Internship plus class experience can be substituted for work experience)
  • Additional Eligibility Qualifications: GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening. Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen.
    Desired Characteristics:
  • Industrial engine, genset, or switchgear design background with experience designing fabrications, sheet metal components, piping, electrical harnesses, and schematics
  • Experience with Pro / Intralink or PDMLINK / Windchill or Enovia or other CAD file management system
  • Oracle Business system experience
  • Experience using Microsoft office including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated proficiency utilizing design skills to design and detail simple and basic components, schematics, and outline drawings using AutoCAD or other similar 2D CAD Software
  • Knowledge of manufacturing, quality, and assembly processes and experience working with the associated functional organizations
  • Experience reading circuit schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of rapid prototype techniques
  • Proficiency in managing technical and organizational assignments
  • Ability to perform basic design calculations and apply GD&T per ASME Y-

  • Demonstrated basic problem solving skills
  • Organizational skills required to effectively handle multiple tasks
  • Communication and Interpersonal skills required to function effectively with engineering and inter-department team
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written, oral, and presentation skills
