Aero-Thermal and Mechanical Systems (ATMS) is a key technology organization of Global Research Centre. ATMS, Bangalore is a team of 70 researchers focused on developing next generation mechanical systems and services. The team has 7 labs that are focused on fluid mechanics, aerodynamics, thermal sciences, combustion, tribology, system dynamics, mechanical reliability and diagnostics and prognostics technologies. ATMS-Bangalore team has capabilities in both numerical and experimental work in fluid mechanics and owns and drives steam turbine aerodynamics technology. In addition, the team also works in numerous other technologies including wind turbine blade design, supersonic compressor, appliances compressor, multi-phase flow, to name a few. The combustion and thermal sciences team drives the diesel combustion and combustion kinetics work at ATMS-Bangalore and in addition works on developing novel thermal cycles for low cost desalination and arsenic removal from water. State of the art work in tribology involving nano-additives to oil to increase component life, component life testing, bearing design tools and mechanical reliability analysis are some of the novel technologies being worked on in tribology and system dynamics lab. The services team in ATMS-Bangalore focuses on failure prediction technologies with very multi-disciplinary work in the areas of novel sensor applications and physics-based diagnostics and prognostics. A significant component of ATMS-Bangalore team’s research is focused on developing novel products and services for India including arsenic removal in water, services for Indian power plants and Jenbacher engines with scope to grow in new areas such as biomass power, solar thermal power, and low speed wind turbine.

Role Summary/Purpose: Develop solutions to solve field issues in dynamics in systems such as drive trains, locomotives & locomotive truck systems, wind turbines etc. and recommend design solutions to mechanical systems to meet the dynamic performance requirements.

Execute large business programs on dynamic beahvior of complex mechanical systems like wind turbines, IC engines, gearboxes etc through physics based computational simulation.
Essential Responsibilities: - Perform detailed system level and multi-body dynamic analysis of complex mechanical systems
- Provide technical & program leadership for accomplishing lab goals
- Serve as a technical mentor/guide to less experienced employees across organizations
- Develop technology roadmap for system dynamics
- Drive innovation and influence IP strategy for GE by generating technical ideas
- Create research proposals by understanding needs of business and secure project funding
- Leverage technical network to collaborate across organizations/disciplines and create new opportunities for the lab
- Communicate on regular basis with global GE businesses and work with a global cross-functional team during project execution & innovation
Qualifications/Requirements: -PhD in multi-body dynamics or structural dynamics with base degree in Mechanical/Aerospace/Structural Engineering
-In depth knowledge of Structural dynamics/ multi body dynamics/ Aerodynamics
-Ability to formulate and solve problems independently
-Creative thinking with passion for generating new ideas
-Strong customer focus with excellent communication skills
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
Desired Characteristics: -Industrial/Research experience in modeling dynamic behavior of gear box drive train mechanisms -Indistrial/Research experience in using commercial engineering solvers such as ADAMS/ NASTRAN -Work experience in aviation, gas turbine wind turbine and transportation sectors - Proven ability to work across all technology disciplines/functions/levels as part of a team &/or team leader - Proven ability to work under pressure and deliver - Proven leadership skills in technology development, project proposal writing and creating new ideas and taking them to fruition
