Role Summary/Purpose: As an Energy Systems Lead Engineer, you will propose, assess, and develop novel energy systems by creating thermo-economic models and conducting experiments.
Essential Responsibilities: The Energy Systems Lead Engineer will conducts and /or lead the assessments of novel energy systems concepts by working with a global team to create analytical models and conduct experiments. You may develop detailed 1st and 2nd law thermodynamic models, creates conceptual mechanical designs, and evaluates engineering economics; design and conduct experimental analysis when practical. Systems of interest include, but are not limited to: gas turbines, organic rankine cycles, supercritical CO2 cycles, geothermal power, fuel cells, absorption chillers, wind turbines, concentrating solar power, and desalination systems.


You will:

  • Lead and/or participate in a team developing next-generation technology programs
  • Identify, plan, and develop conceptual designs for next-generation energy technologies
  • Create thermoeconomic models of energy system concepts
  • Identify technology gaps and conduct detailed analyses or experiments as appropriate to address these gaps
  • Review results and conclusions with co-workers, management, and counterparts in GE businesses, and drive next steps
  • Be expected to meet technical and business objectives with the highest quality and integrity
  • Document results through patent applications, technical reports and publications
  • Identify key technical issues and focus resources to produce cutting-edge technical breakthroughs
  • Build strong networks with technologists and leaders at GE businesses and the external technical community
  • Collaborate with the GE Businesses and external technical organizations to implement inventions and improvements
  • Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Doctorate degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Aerospace, or Nuclear Engineering, Engineering Physics, Systems Engineering, or Physics with at least 5 years of industrial experience or a Master's Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Aerospace, or Nuclear Engineering, Engineering Physics, Systems Engineering, or Physics with at least 8 years of industrial experience
  • Demonstrated ability to construct detailed engineering models of energy systems and interpret results
  • Deep understanding of thermodynamics
  • Demonstrated understanding of turbomachinery
  • Demonstrated experience with thermal power generation systems or renewable energy systems
  • Demonstrated experience with designing, conducting, and analyzing experiments
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and rank technical and cost challenges
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals at the Masters level for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
