Role Summary/Purpose: Field Engineer will be responsible for complete commissioning, troubleshooting services and warranty activities with limited supervision to GE Solar inverter controls on site. The sites are in remote areas and will require candidate to be on site for extended periods of time, often in very hot environments. Eligible applicants must work well with others as well as alone in some cases. Professional documentation and communication will be required to supervising staff and customers.
Essential Responsibilities: In this role, you will:


  • Commission and service new and existing GE solar inverters
  • Interpret design requirements based on internal specifications, customer specifications, and knowledge of the product application
  • Design specification related to power distribution systems, variable frequency drives, interfaces, etc.; and provides engineering solutions in compliance with the engineering standards
  • Carry out detailed software upgrades of drive products and systems
  • Carry out detailed hardware upgrades of drive products and systems
  • When necessary carry out detailed field surveys to evaluate interfaces between new and existing equipment
  • Prepare and maintain test procedures and assists in testing and troubleshooting products and systems
  • Prepare and maintain associated documentation
  • Write engineering and commissioning procedures
  • Conduct laboratory tests and experiments and write concise test reports and analysis
  • Provide technical training to customers and employees, as required
  • Respond to engineering change notices, requests for engineering assistance, and deficiency reports
  • Perform all duties on schedule and within budget
  • Provide supervision to engineers and technicians with less experience in the office and at customer sites
  • Perform other duties may be assigned by management to meet business needs
  • Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Technology or related discipline from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum 5 years of direct experience with electronic control software engineering

  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 80% of the time

  • Strong PC and analytical skills
  • Broad experience with closed loop control algorithms
  • Experience in power conversion technology
  • Knowledge of software including PLC Function Block (IEC1131), C, C++
  • Ability to learn and follow defined departmental policies, procedures and practices
  • Must be able to make decisions with regards to completion of tasks and job methods and follow through with results of outcome
  • Ability to use hand tools for servicing equipment
  • Knowledge of electrical test equipment and their operation
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Be able to interact and communicate with internal customers. Internal customers may include production, engineers, and management personnel
  • Ability to prioritize workload and shift work activities in order to meet business needs and department goals, essential
  • Be able to independently arrange and organize work efforts on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis
  • Be able to meet tight deadlines and multi-task on a consistent basis
  • Ability to conceptualize and implement performance objectives that meet established requirements
