Role Summary/Purpose: | The successful candidate will be part of the Wind Material Engineering global team supporting mechanical, thermal, testing and qualification of composite materials for wind blades, nacelle and spinner components. The position is integral part of the P&W Renewables Engineering COE, GE P&W BEC, Bangalore. |
Essential Responsibilities: | Lead Engineer – Wind Material Engineer for Composites shall technically contribute in following responsibilities: - Independently perform mechanical testing (tensile, compressive, fatigue) of FRP composite coupons and sub-articles using UTMs - Ability to define material specification requirements for the wind blades, nacelle, spinner design teams - Leverage experience and technical competency to solve supplier quality and field issues collaborating with cross-functional teams - Provide technical guidance to suppliers and field service engineers on blade, nacelle, spinner repair materials - Actively assess new technologies for enabling product cost-out - Implement lessons learnt from fleet issues, supplier quality issues into new material specifications focusing on design robustness - Active assess new cost-out materials to enable product cost-out Drive blade qualification and full-blade validation testing interacting with suppliers, sourcing and blade test centers - Lead component level certifications as per IEC 61400-1 requirements interacting with TUV and other certification bodies. - Ensure proper documentation of technical data generated for programs |
Qualifications/Requirements: | - Master's degree in Material Science or relevant technical field from an accredited university or college - Minimum of 5 years of experience in FRP composite material - Minimum of 2 years of experience handling UTMs to perform static and fatigue testing - Experience in handling thermoset resin systems of epoxy and polyester FRP laminates will be preferred |

Desired Characteristics: | - Expertise in composite material development and various composite manufacturing process (vacuum infusion, hand lay-up, RTM) - Experience in composite structure-property correlation studies, especially mechanical, fracture mechanics and thermal studies - Experience in working with material vendors qualifying new materials - Experience in field issue resolutions through systematic root cause analysis approach - Experience in using statistical tools for test data analysis - Experience in leading and delivering results in a global matrix organization - Ability to engage team members on solving technical problems - Ability to manage program deliverables with on-time delivery and first-time right quality - Ability to communicate and influence stakeholders and global counterparts - Certified six sigma green belt (applicable for GE internal candidates) - Strong oral and written communication skills - Strong interpersonal & leadership skills |
