Role Summary/Purpose: The Engineer - Advanced Design Tools (ADT) will develop solid mechanics based analysis tools for Renewables, PGP and Aviation.
Essential Responsibilities: In addition you will:


  • Develop advanced Stress and Life related tools using APDL and FORTRAN
  • Participate in tool validation testing
  • Team with domestic and global engineers to share work scope and synergize while creating tools and methods that will benefit multiple GE businesses
  • Work collaboratively with business customers to brainstorm ADT projects that will provide “big swing” company strategic benefits
  • Establish milestone tasks, dates and validation requirements based on business customer need, resources and available funding
  • Work carefully with business customers and tools developers to anticipate roadblocks and provide appropriate mitigations
  • Work closely with business customers to keep project milestones on track while identifying and eliminating potential scope creep
  • Synergize with other GE businesses including GEA, O&G and Transportation to develop robust tools that meet multi-functional business CTQ’s
  • Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering from an accredited college or university

    Desired Characteristics:
  • Applied solid mechanics engineering experience
  • Elastic and inelastic FEA analysis experience
  • Knowledge of ANSYS Classic and Workbench
  • FORTRAN knowledge and past programming experience
  • Proven ability to clearly and concisely communicate complex engineering issues to a non-technical audience
  • MS or PhD in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Experience leading engineering projects and adhering to budget and schedule
  • Experience working in Renewables and familiarity with Tower, Structures and Gearbox related engineering tools
  • Knowledge of Composite theory and lifing
  • Experience developing, leading or participating in Design System Integration projects
  • Tcl / Tk programming experience
  • Python programming experience
  • Experience leading, applying or participating in Lean Startup Practices including FastWorks
