Role Summary/Purpose: The Lead Engineer for Electrical Engineering will develop the design of electrical components for thermal power plants. The equipment will be designed with a focus on systems integration providing a safe and reliable connection between the customer's grid and the generator.
Essential Responsibilities: The team will be responsible for the entire electrical system from the generator terminals to the customer's point of connection. The equipment includes; the generator protection system, grid interface, medium and low voltage distribution and generator controls. The main focus of the team will be centered on the fulfillment of customer orders globally where there is a strong collaboration between the engineers on the team and the customers to develop the electrical system for the project.

In addition, you will:

  • Attend Order Release Meetings to ensure the scope definition is accurate for the electrical equipment
  • Review contracts during the proposal phase for technical content and scope (mainly looking for items outside of standard design or cost models)
  • Complete Field Modification Instructions to modify Existing Electrical Systems
  • Work with Master Schedulers to ensure project schedules reflect the electrical systems scope
  • Be the focal point for the preliminary engineering of the Electrical System related to the creation of project specific drawings for use by the customer and in manufacturing of the equipment
  • Produce interconnect lists for wiring within and between Electrical Panels
  • Generate and validate project Bill of Materials
  • Develop and provide quality checks for the one line diagram
  • Improve quality assurance and drive consistency and adherence to quality procedures and requirements consistent with Engineering quality processes and procedures
  • Drive continuous improvement of design and drawing quality performance through Six Sigma and Lean Six Sigma principles and methodology
  • Monitor and drive for Cost of Failure / Quality (COF / COQ) reduction in the Electrical System
  • Establish programs to monitor and improve design and drawing process capabilities for CTQs
  • Providing technical guidance to suppliers toward assuring product / process compliance with engineering drawings and specifications
  • Work closely with Sourcing COEs, Business teams, and Engineering to eliminate roadblocks and communication barriers that may affect quality requirements
  • Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science from an accredited college or university (or a High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of IT, engineering, scientific or other technical experience)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an engineering position
