Role Summary/Purpose: The Lead Generator Application Engineer will develop strategies that provide winning equipment configurations that meet the Power Generation Products business objectives and satisfy customer requirements. In this role you will coordinate strategies with Generator SIL Team, Engineering, Commercial Operations and Product Line Leadership.
Essential Responsibilities: In addition, you will:


  • Review and disposition cost and cycle estimates for generator electrical MSD customer requested special features. Input cost and cycle impact into Pegasus or PLM tool in a timely manner to support proposal cycle and accurate cost rollup by generator finance
  • Review sections of customer RFQs with respect to electrical equipment details at the request of generator application engineers. Work with subject matter experts in the Electrical engineering team to determine if requirements must be taken exception to, can be met with GE’s standard design, or if the requirements can be complied with by executing a new design feature for additional cost and cycle
  • Coordinate creation of proposal one line diagrams by taking input from Generator application engineers and directing drafting team in India to deliver a one line drawing to support proposal cycle. Review one line with respect to Pegasus or PLM features and electrical design to deliver accurate drawing for customer proposal
  • Assist generator application engineers in evaluating generator capability against turbine output and in producing electrical design curves and data sheet using the appropriate generator model for the application utilizing GADP tool
  • Be responsible for the technical content of proposals for GE Generators, EX2100 Exciter and Generator electrical accessories. Work with Sales, Commercial Operations, and Design Engineering teams to develop winning bid and proposal strategies for GE equipment
  • Act as the engineering interface to Sales and Commercial Operations teams for technical support involving all resources relative to design, production, availability, and performance of GE Generators and electrical auxiliary equipment during the proposal phase of a project
  • Be responsible for the preparation and completeness of all documentation related to GE technical proposals associated with the generator and electrical auxiliary equipment. Complete all technical reviews prior to bid submittal and prior to project release, including PEGASUS, EPDR reviews, and RAMP reviews
  • Represent GE products and equipment at customer meetings, maintaining a high level of business acumen and commercial awareness. Represent the technical aspects of project scope and equipment capability to a potential customer during the competitive bidding process
  • Attend internal project meetings to establish strategies for winning and customer meetings to clarify technical aspects during negotiations with the customer
  • Maintain an awareness of codes and standards
  • Interpret customer requirements to determine proper application of General Electric equipment to ensure GE’s competitive position and ultimate customer satisfaction
  • Support GE productivity and quality initiatives
  • Ensure the on time completion of all assigned and proposal activities including business initiatives for Quality, Cost, Reliability, Performances, etc
  • Develop technical capabilities concurrent with execution of position responsibilities
  • Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments (IOIs)
  • Recognize and communicate issues with project schedules or requirements sufficiently early so actions can be taken to resolve those items
  • Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited College or University
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an engineering position

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability and willingness to travel globally, as required
  • Additional Eligibility Qualifications: GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening. Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen.
    Desired Characteristics:
  • Strong background in generator and electric equipment design and application
  • Knowledgeable of power systems, power plants, controls, gas turbine equipment and terminology
  • Ability to interpret one line diagrams, knowledge of electrical equipment symbols
  • Familiarity with IEEE and IEC standards with regards to the design and manufacture of generator electrical MSD equipment
  • Familiarity with Transformers, Motor control centers, generator protective relays, Load Commutated Inverter Static Starters, generator exciters, generator neutral grounding systems, generator line side enclosures, current transformers, Voltage transformers, battery systems and chargers.
  • Well established communication and presentation skills (oral and written) to all levels within GE and to customers, partners and suppliers.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to work independently with minimal direction required
  • Well established planning, organizing, influencing and networking skills to implement courses of action for self and others to ensure that work is completed efficiently
  • Team Player and self-starter with demonstrated design creativity and problem solving capability
  • Working knowledge of Pegasus and PLM tools
