Role Summary/Purpose: The Lead Controls Engineer will be an integral part of the wind product and design process, reporting directly to the Engineering Manager of the Control Systems organization.
Essential Responsibilities: This is a global engineering role where the scope includes design & enhancement of wind turbine control systems, coordinating with teams within Renewable engineering and services team on product needs, requirements flowdown leading to design, implementation and validation of control systems, coordinating & communicating site validation activities with the services team and customers. The broad scope of responsibility provides an opportunity to optimize turbine performance and operability

In addition, you will:


  • Assist development and enhancement of controls technologies, such as Advanced Loads Controls, Model Based Controls, extreme loads control, covering functional requirements definition, flowdown, preliminary design development & documentation
  • Interface with Loads Team and incorporate wind turbine and wind farm operability requirements into the design, as part of control system design
  • Work with controls product line & systems personnel to flow down desired capability into requirements & preliminary design that can be executed through detailed design & implementation.
  • Work with Fleet Reliability Operations and Renewable Services team to define control system needs for the installed base
  • Engage with turbine platform and services team and investigate complex controls issues, identify & implement improvements in the controls strategies
  • Work with senior and other lead engineers to assist in conceptual design, detailed design, implementation and validation of the controls features, as part of the controls team
  • Engage in the efforts of defining / documenting turbine operability & constraints. This is creating the foundation on which controls architecture and approach can be modified to meet goals of improved transient response
  • Work closely with Principle Engineer (PE) and senior design engineers to develop strategy for high visibility tasks (RCA, new concepts for fast track design needs) and represent the team in discussions and reviews with renewables leadership
  • Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Control Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an accredited College or University
  • Minimum of 3 years of real time controls design or modeling experience with GE’s Mark VIe or similar controllers
  • Additional Eligibility Qualifications: GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening. Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen.
    Desired Characteristics:
  • Greenbelt Certification or equivalent Quality training
  • Master’s Degree in Controls Engineering, Computer, or Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Experience in design and / or modeling of controls systems
  • Minimum of 5 years of wind industry experience with a focus on plant controls systems
  • Strong analytical approach to problem solving
  • Ability to lead in a matrix organization
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to succeed in a global team environment
  • Experience with typical controls platforms, favorable with GE’s Mark
  • Vie platform(UCSA / B controllers)
  • Strong background and experience in real
  • time control development
