Role Summary/Purpose: The Thermal Hydraulics Engineer - Core, Fuel & Advanced Design (CFAD) team will lead thermal hydraulic experimental programs and perform engineering analysis related to single-phase and two-phase flow in BWR fuel components, fuel assemblies and the reactor core.
Essential Responsibilities: As the Thermal Hydraulics Engineer - Core, Fuel & Advanced Design, you will:


  • Develop test plans for thermal hydraulic experiments of new components and analysis of test results
  • Interface with test personnel for all activities of assigned test programs such as design / fabrication of test components / test rigs, development of test plans, procedures, and test databases, diagnosis of any issues, data acquisition, processing, reporting, data analysis, and pre- and post-inspection of test articles
  • Work with nuclear and mechanical engineering teams in the development of new products and advanced reactor concepts in the area of thermal hydraulics
  • Perform a wide range of bundle, core and system analysis as required to assess new product performance using computational tools such as COBRAG, ISCOR & TRACG
  • Conduct statistical analysis
  • Understand, maintain and improve the thermal hydraulic technical bases for BWR (Boiling Water Reactor) fuel
  • Coordinate multi-functional activities such as design reviews, design optimization, technical challenge reviews with multi-functional groups
  • Support project planning, schedule development, critical path analysis, and task sequencing to meet project deliverables, quality documentation, and on-time delivery requirements
  • Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with multi-disciplined engineering teams
  • Additional Eligibility Qualifications: GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening. Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen.
    Desired Characteristics:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nuclear or Mechanical Engineering with 15 years of experience working with multi-disciplined engineering teams (OR Master’s Degree in Nuclear or Mechanical Engineering with 10 years of experience working with multi-disciplined engineering teams OR PhD Degree in Nuclear or Mechanical Engineering with 5 years of experience working with multi-disciplined engineering teams)
  • In-depth knowledge of BWR thermal hydraulics, and BWR core and fuel
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, teamwork skills and customer interface experience
  • Experimental background in two-phase flow
  • Appetite for engineering challenge and the inventor’s flare
  • High level of statistical capability
  • Significant depth and interest in thermal hydraulics analysis
  • Ability to work in a multi-stakeholder environment
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification or equivalent quality certification
